Retirement from Studies

EU STUDENTS

Students retiring from their studies must notify both the Fees & Grants Office and the Records Office immediately in writing. Fees wise, there are certain implications for students who retire from University.

The Registration fee of €2,093 (€93 Student Levy + €2,000 Student Contribution) is non refundable to students who have de- registered after the 31st October of that Academic year;

  • The Department of Education advises that a minimum half fee be charged to the HEA for any student covered under the 'free' fees scheme, who registers and then retires following the first day of term and prior to the 31st January of that Academic year. If the student attends the same year level of a third level course within the next five years, he/she becomes liable for fees for a half year.
  • Students who retire after the 31st January of the Academic year will become liable for full fees, if attending the same year level of a third level course within the next five years.
  • Any student retiring in exceptional circumstances, such as a certified serious illness, may apply to the Fees & Grants Office for permission to re-attend as 'free' fee students. Please note that copies of all medical certificates will be required.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

  • International Students retiring before the 31st October will receive 80% of their fee back. No refund is payable after that date.
  • Where an International student is taking a 2nd semester only, a refund of 80% will apply where the student withdraws before the 15th February. No refund will apply after that date.
